WORK HISTORY
June to September 2008
Target Supercenter: Sales Team Member
Teamwork was a huge part of this job. Everything was accomplished as a team, including stocking shelves, organizing product, and helping customers. Huge emphasis was placed on customer service, keeping the store clean and organized, and making sure new product was moved onto the sales floor in a timely and visually pleasing manner. I also worked as a cashier and in several other departments, including grocery, clothing, and jewellery.
January to April 2007
Lone Jack C-6 Elementary: After School Elementary Tutor
Working one on one with children in the special education classes at the elementary level. I assisted with maths, social studies, reading, and science homework. Communication skills were vital in helping the students’ understanding, along with encouragement, and tailoring my tutoring methods to each student. Patience and understanding were also very important.
May to September 2006
Lone Jack Mid-Continent Library: Page
Though not exceedingly busy most days, this job demanded high levels of organisation and teamwork. Checking in, retrieving, and shelving books were all a part of my duties, along with keeping the shelves orderly. Communication skills were important in helping patrons find what they were looking for, or when giving instructions on how to use the public computers. Quick memorization skills were essential, especially when dealing with the non-fiction cataloguing system.
SKILLS PROFILE
IT
I am fully conversant with most internet browsers and word processors, including Microsoft Office. I often use Photoshop, Gimp, Corel Painter, InDesign, and/or Illustrator in my art practice. I am comfortable working on Mac, PC, and Linux systems.
Basic Spanish
I have taken three years of basic Spanish. I can read and write some Spanish, and can answer simple questions or give directions.
Organisation and Teamwork
Excellent organisation skills cultivated throughout my schooling, but especially during my degree. Time management and multitasking are also my strong suits, as I have had to continually juggle between general education courses, completing art projects, and personal project time. I have also needed to work in a team and expand my organisational skills in each of the above jobs.
INFLUENCES & INTERESTS
I am very interested in illustration and narrative art pieces, and strive to include it in almost all of my work. I am constantly inspired by the works of Edward Gorey, Michaelangelo, Tony DiTerlizzi, and a variety of comic book artists. I am also inspired by music, and right now have taken an interest in Nine Inch Nails, Movits!, George Gershwin and Röyksopp.
